Walks from Viella

Walking There are 3 recognised walking routes starting and finishing in Viella and the village itself is riddled with pretty tracks and paths where you can explore and roam to your hearts content. The Chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle passes close by and of course you are spoilt for choice if you venture into the Pyrénées. We have maps and guides available for your use, both local and further afield.

Wine tasting. There is a good reason why wine tasting is number 1 on our list of activities – we are in the heart of a very special wine region. This area is famous for the sweet Pacherenc, perfect for that evening ‘apero’ and of course the full bodied red Madrian wine. What better way to spend an afternoon than a very special wine tasting tour.

Horse Riding

Riding is at a local equestrian centre where you can either go out for a ride in the beautiful coutryside or you could have a lesson in the arena with their english speaking instructor.  There is an  excellent choice of lovely, well schooled horses and ponies to suit all abilities.

Fishing enthusiasts are spoilt for choice in the Gers. There are many well stocked lakes and rivers right on our doorstep, including the pretty river L’Adour at nearby Riscle. Perch, tench, pike, carp and black-bass are common here.

Cycling is a fantastic way to see the countryside and explore some of the most beautiful villages in the local area. We have mountain bikes available for you to use free of charge during your stay.

The Tour de France passes close by here every year so why not time your visit to coincide with this incredible event

Water Sports We are located close to the foothills of the Pyrenees so there is a wide variety of choice when it comes to watersports. Visitors regularly go white water rafting on the Gave de Pau, a fabulous half day out. If you have never tried canyoning this is a great place to have a go or if you prefer something a bit calmer you can arrange to go kayaking.

Golf There are a number of very good courses nearby.

Golf du Chateau de Pallanne, 40 mins. The Castle and the 18 hole par 74 / 6344m course offers magnificent views of the Pyrenees and a beautiful lake of 19 hectares

Golf Golf de Tursan, 20 mins. This 9 hole course is located close to Eugenie les Bains, complete with driving range

Pau Golf Club, 45 Mins. The oldest golf club in Continental Europe, 18 hole par 69 / 5314m with the Pyrenees as a backdrop
